Chile is a viticultural paradise. Its unique combination of geography and climate make it ideal for winegrowing. Blessed by nature Chile is bordered on the north by the Atacama Desert, the Patagonian ice fields to the south, the Andes Mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west which together create ideal growing conditions for the noble vine.
Grape varieties grown here include the celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, the temperamental Pinot Noir as well as varietals indigenous Chilean varietals including Carmenere. Many Chilean selections have attained world class wine status and are found in cellars of collectors around the world.
The vines love Chile’s Mediterranean climate – warm, dry summers and cold, rainy winters. The climate, coupled with the cooling effects of the Pacific Ocean and the protection from the Andes Mountains allows the grapes to develop fresh fruit flavors, crisp acidity and brilliant color.
Among Chile’s wine producing regions is the Maule Valley. Blessed by nature, for growing outstanding varietals the Maule Valley – one of Chiles largest and oldest wine producing regions – is approximately 150 miles south of Santiago.
